I am so excited about all the new volunteers that are stepping up to help this year. There are so many events in the first couple of months of school that work out so much better when there are parents that can pitch in. New clinic volunteers have gone through Red Cross training. Several parents came to help with lunch for the younger kids. It may not sound like much, but having a friendly face to open containers in what can feel like a big, scary place is such a comfort for these little ones. Family Fun Night gave an opportunity for many parents and local business to support Gibbs Elementary. The school had great parent support for coupon book deliveries, flu mist day and picture day. Making these days run smoother gives our children less of a distraction and keeps them ready to learn. Plus, these days can be a lot of fun for the volunteers too!
Volunteering at an event is not the only way to "step up". There is a great value in the perspective of a parent that does not have the spare time to volunteer. What a great resource for suggestions! These parents need good communications and must operate with efficiency. Many times, they are in a position to see the "big picture" so much better than many other parents around them who are "more connected". If you are one of these parents and have a great idea about how to make our PTA or school more efficient, please share. IF we can match up a great idea form one parent with some available time from another parent...we can do great things!
